Back to Work But At Least There's Hummus

Hey all! I hope everyone had a a great Monday! I am down at my parent’s house again for 2 weeks so I will not be posting as much as usual. :-(   Don’t give up on me though! I will post every day, I promise! I can’t post from my office computer because I can’t save pictures on it. Maybe I’ll bring my laptop to work and post on my lunch break a couple times.

Breakfast this morning was sleepy

6-7breakfast

  • 3/4 cup Vanilla Almond Special K
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • Blueberries

Surprisingly, this kept me full from 7:30 to 10:00. My mid morning snack looked like this

6-7fage

I love Fage with Peach! The flavors mix so well together. I am so glad I discovered Greek Yogurt. I always tried to like regular yogurt but the consistency grossed me out.  It used to take me an hour to eat a regular yogurt. I ate this in less than 5 minutes. If you are the type of person that doesn’t like yogurt because of its consistency, try Greek Yogurt! I promise, you’ll love it.

I didn’t get a chance to go grocery shopping last night because it took me so long to get to my parent’s house. So lunch was out6-7dropbygourmet

I went to Drop By Gourmet, which is a take out sandwich shop near my office. They have a lot of fun, healthy choices on their menu and they make everything fresh. I ordered the Hummus Pita. They were actually in the process of making the hummus when I ordered so it was totally fresh for me. :-)

The pita was overflowing with homemade hummus, cucumbers, carrots,  sundried tomatoes, and sprouts. I had to wipe a lot of the hummus off because it was a little too much for me. The sandwich was amazing otherwise.

At about 3:00, I munched on  some of these

And drank an unsweetened iced tea with lemon

These crackers were so filling. They tasted like an everything bagel. It’s 7:30 and I’m just getting hungry after having these at 3pm.  And check out the side of the box

They are so good for you!! I was so excited about these that I went to their website just to pick out products I want to try! I’m going to Whole Foods on Thursday and I’m definitely picking up some Chipotle Tomato  Sticks and Twigs if they have them!

I hit the grocery store after work

I didn’t go too crazy because I knew I was going to Whole Foods on Thursday. I decided to try Truvia . I have been using splenda and I’d rather not be. I heard Truvia is a better alternative.  I am really excited to try the Amy’s Pizza.

My workout after work included bicep curls, squats, lunges, crunches, and a long walk.

My mom and brother are outside grilling up a feast for dinner.  Highlights include–but are not limited to–chipotle grilled chicken, sweet potatoes marinated in olive oil and rosemary, and zucchini!  More on this later!

Question of  the day:

I’m interested in starting to run. Right now I workout on the elliptical, my bike, gym classes, and the treadmill. I always had problems running when I was younger but haven’t tried since. Any advice for beginners? Running a marathon would be incredible.

  • if you like Greek yogurt, you should try Chobani. Its cheaper than Fage and just as good (also fat free)! I highly recommend the honey flavor. I’ve eaten it for breakfast like every day for the past 3 months. They have it at price chopper.

I love Chobani too! I actually ran a Chobani Giveaway in the beginning of June. I also love, love LOVE Oikos! Thanks for the tip :-)

  • I never ran until 3 years ago, and I completed a half marathon in Dec.
You just have to start small and add gradually.

I now run short twice Tues/Thurs and long on Sat.

You can start with .5 a mile on Tues/Thurs and a mile on Sat and gradually build up, increasing every two weeks. That is what works for me, so I thought I’d share!

  • Good luck with the running. I can’t help. I am a walker. You’re younger than I am.

  • I agree with Whit – get started gradually or you will most likely get injured, or will mentally burn out! I only run 3 days a week now and I find that that works great for me because of these same reasons, but of course many people run more frequently than this. Running buddies or local running buddies help, as does great music. Oh and great equipment…. make sure you have good quality running shoes!! And don’t ever wear cotton anything – no cotton socks or clothing – it will chafe and doesnt breathe, get the dri-fit stuff – esp. if you are getting into longer distances :) Good luck!

  • Definitely start out with a pair of proper running shoes – go to a running store and make sure they watch you run so they can put you in the right category (neutral/stability/motion control)…and remember, comfort matters more than color! ;)

Once you’ve got the sneaks down, you can start with a run/walk ratio (check out jeffgalloway.com or runnersworld.com) and then gradually increase your running and decrease the walking. Definitely want to ease into it so you prevent injury!

    Yayyy for running!! :)

  • I can’t really help you with running, but Kim at Gluten-Free Is Life is training for a 1/2 marathon and may have some good tips. http://glutenfreeislife.wordpress.com/

BTW…I’m new to your blog and really love reading it. I like your great ideas for healthy meals and snacks. Let us know how the Truvia is…I haven’t read any reviews of it yet…
