I am a HUGE procrastinator and always end up rushing everything, but I'm going to try what you've done and plan my day by the half hour/hour and see how that goes! Also, I so agree that what's playing on your ipod can change how long/ how motivated you are to run- I have special playlists on mine for different workouts.

Your run sounds awesome! I love those days that just fall into place.

"How do you manage your time? How do you stay motivated to get things done? Any tips for me?"

HA! I wish I had the answer to these questions. Alas time management and motivation are things I'm always perpetually striving for. In a nutshell, my greatest motivating factor is peace of mind. When I have stories due, I try to think about how utterly relieved I'll be when the work is off my back. The temptation to procrastinate is irresistible sometimes, but the thought of not having to work for 48 hours is exhilarating. To get to that point, I usually bribe myself with chocolate. I literally set it out in front of my laptop and after I've fired off a few paragraphs, I'll take a bite.

Note: this kind of good behavior happens about twice a week and in very controlled settings. I'm fucking awful at exercising restraint. However, when it works I feel like I've conquered the world.

You want an even better tip?

Don't beat yourself up over time management and motivation. Remember WE are our own worst enemies. Time management is the construct of a technologically-drunk America. Just roll with things (without berating yourself for being off-target or being off-schedule) and you'll be alright.

In case you can't tell, I'm trying very hard to take this advice.
