Happy Valentine’s Day!
Jeff and I started celebrating yesterday morning and went to a local restaurant called Peaches Cafe for breakfast.
I LOVE going out to breakfast!
I ordered the Multi Grain Blueberry Pancakes
They were gigantic! I could only eat about one and a half.
After breakfast, we headed over to the Troy Farmers’ Market to meet our friends Jess and Seth. While there, I ate my weight in samples and drank a million little medicine cups full of wine. I tried a white chocolate wine and had to talk myself out of buying 10 bottles of it. It was soooo good!
When we were done at the market, we walked to a cafe called Flavour for lunch.
I ordered a bowl of the Vegetarian Chili
It was OK. It tasted more like tomato soup with a couple black beans thrown in.
Jeff and I headed home after lunch to be lazy do school work until our 8:30 dinner reservations.
I snacked on a couple treats from the Farmers’ Market before dinner.
We bought Whole Wheat French Peasant Bread and Saratoga PB Co. Maple Peanut Butter. They taste wonderful together! (Sorry Mae! I was hoping you’d be at the Troy Market this weekend!)
I also dipped celery sticks into this:
Seriously? Black Bean Hummus!? *dies*
For Valentine’s Dinner, Jeff and I decided on a Greek restaurant called Athos.
I started out with a glass of White Greek Wine called Moscholfilero (light and floral)
We ordered the Skordalia for an appetizer
The waitress brought out a roasted red pepper sauce to go with it. I could have eaten the whole basket of pita. (Don’t worry- I didn’t)
For my entree, I ordered the Vegetarian Piatela.
A combination of Vegetarian Appetizers selected by the Chef and served with Lemon Potatoes and Vegetable Imeras.
Oh. My. God. This was too good for words. My plate came with:
- Spanakopita- Fresh Spinach, Leeks, Feta Cheeses, and Dill wrapped in Phyllo (This is what Jeff ordered for his entree)
- Gigantes Athos- Giant Lima Beans baked with Tomatoes. Onions, Celery, and Carrots
- Papoutsaki Melitsana- Baby Eggplant stuffed with Onions, Garlic, Fresh Tomatoes, and Cheese
- Dolmadakia- Hand rolled Grape Leaves with Rice. Seasoned with Greek Herbs and Mint
On top of all that, it came with lemon potatoes and roasted cauliflower. Everything on the plate was phenomenal. I could only eat half but I was happy to take some home to have for lunch today.
Of course, I wasn’t too full for dessert:
Jeff and I shared a glass of Chocolate Mousse which was also out of this world.
Everything was outstanding! I am contemplating going back with my family for my birthday next month. The chef owns a restaurant in NYC called Ithaka. I definitely recommend checking it out if you live in the city. I also recommend Athos to anyone that lives in the Albany area. I loved it!
Tomorrow night, Jeff and I are throwing a party for our friend Julianne’s birthday. Jess and I ordered cupcakes from the vegan bakery .I can’t wait to try them!
I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon with a recap of today’s eats!
Do you like Greek food? What did you do this weekend?
Have a great Monday!

Thanks for the restaurant recommendation. I’m always looking for new places to eat.
I used to looooove greek food. Somewhere along the way, my tastes change though:-(
Your Greek dinner looks to die for!!! Oh my!!!
Where was the bread from at the Troy market? (I think my fav. baker there is “my daily bread”… or is that Schenectady?)
Restaurant breakfast lunch and dinner!!! What a treat!
I love the examples you give for how to eat healthy while dining out.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Mae
White chocolate wine? Are ya kidding me?!??! I hope that you bought at least one bottle so that you can review the brand and tell me where I can find some for myself!
Happy Valentine’s Day!!
White chocolate wine!! I have never even heard of such a thing – wowzers!!!
I like Greek food … it is not my favourite type of cuisine usually – but your meal looks SO good.
I love Greek food! Everything looks amazing…white chocolate WINE?!!!!!! Yum
I think breakfast food should be consumed all day, in addition to the fact that I think everyone should store their syrup in one of those easy-pour glass pitchers you see at diners. I’m glad you and Jeff had lovely and delicious Valentines Day. That chocolate mousse looks illegal!
White chocolate wine?? *swoons* I gotta make sure my eyes are clear the next time I stop by the market!
Thanks for the photo info on Athos – that really does look good.
And for the record, I totally would have eaten that pita. Yuuuuum
All looks wonderful, my honey and I had dinner last week at Athos as an early V day celebration and we too had an incredibly wonderful experience. It’s upscale, but not snooty and the food is great. I’m so glad I found your blog…looking forward to reading more.
