Good Friends and Spicy Margaritas

Happy March!!! March is one of my favorite months because it means the beginning of spring AND my birthday is also this month! I may be turning 23, but I still get ridiculously excited about my birthday like I’m 5.

I am also very excited about March because Jeff and I are going to Washington D.C./Maryland toward the end the month. I’ve never been there! If any Washington D.C. or surrounding area bloggers  want to do a blogger meet-up, let me know.

Now, let’s get down to business. When I last left you on Friday night, I was talking about going to a Mexican-Irish Restaurant with Jess and Seth. You heard correctly–Mexican-Irish. I thought it was weird too but José Malone’s did not disappoint.

We had to wait for a bit for the table, so we grabbed some drinks from the bar. I apologize in advance for the horrible lighting.

Of course, I had to order Sangria–it’s a necessity at Mexican Restaurants.

When we were seated, I ate my weight in chips and salsa.

I ordered the Mango and Goat Cheese Quesadilla.

Vegetarian Quesadilla with Mango, Baby Spinach, Grape Tomatoes, Jalapeños, Goat, Jack, and Cheddar Cheeses, and Scallions.

Holy Yum. That’s all I can say.

The quesadilla was an appetizer on the menu so I ordered rice and beans to go along with it. (This turned out to be way too much food for me! I took half home)

I was debating between the quesadillas and the Butternut Squash Bisque before I ordered.  I obviously went with the quesadillas, so I was very excited when I saw that Jess ordered the Butternut Squash Bisque.

With Pure Wildflower Honey, Pomegranate Crema, and Ancho Toasted Pumpkin Seeds

Doesn’t that sound incredible!? It was very rich, so I was happy I decided not to order it. It was way too sweet for me to eat an entire bowl (or even half a bowl) but the couple spoonfuls I stole were delicious.

I ordered a Habeñero-Watermelon Margarita with my entree

Habeñero Infused Tequila with Fresh Watermelon Pureee

This drink was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The first taste was  sweet watermelon and then the habeñero exploded in my throat (in a good way). Everyone at the table loved it. I would definitely order it again. Apparently the restaurant has won several awards for their margaritas. I can see why.

I loved this little blurb on the bottom of the menu:

Our food is made mostly from scratch and of fresh ingredients. Items made to order take loving care and time. Our food is vegetarian except if it is a meat specific dish. Some items are vegan. Some of our menu items are gluten free or can be made gluten free, ask you server. If you have dietary restrictions let your server know and we will try our best to accommodate you. We use separate fryer and griddle for non-meat dishes.

Though before I saw this, Jess asked the waitress if the butternut squash bisque was vegetarian and she said “well, there’s no meat in it.” Hahaha! That made us laugh quite a bit.

Needless to say, we’ll probably be going back to José Malone’s. The food and drinks were excellent and we had a really great time!

After diner, we walked back to Jess and Seth’s apartment, and Jess made more sangria which was probably unnecessary.

I stared in awe at Jess’ beautiful cat, Bella

Then, we played Jeopardy until one in the morning. I am horrible at trivia games. I did know some of the food answers though. For instance, I knew that the pasta sauce made of fresh basil and pine nuts is pesto! Wahoo for me!

Anyway, I’m a bit behind on posting so I’ll be back later today with a weekend recap post.

What’s the weirdest restaurant you’ve ever been to? The best?

Have a great Monday! <3
