If You Know What I'm Sayin'

Don’t forget to enter my Amazing Grass Giveaway! You have until Midnight (EST) on July 14th to enter.

I am truly convinced that macaroni & cheese tastes better when the noodles are shaped like bunnies…

Not kidding.

I think it’s a psychological thing. Anybody with me? Anyone? Oh well…

You’re looking at the dinner I shoved in my face tonight after I got home from a two-mile run at the gym. I kept it simple with mac&peas, and broiled whole wheat bread with tomato slices and cheddar on top.

Let’s run through my Sunday eats, shall we?

I woke up this morning craving a diner breakfast and of course, Jeff was on board. Who doesn’t love a diner breakfast? So, I grabbed my camera case, packed two extra batteries, and walked out the door…leaving my camera on the table. Whoops!

Thankfully, Jeff was nice enough to snap a photo of my food with his trusty camera phone

Man, you guys would have died if you missed this picture, right? Don’t worry- I’ve got your backs. The above was two eggs over easy, dry wheat toast, and a fruit salad. Yum times a million.

After breakfast, we headed to the mall to walk around for a bit. We wandered into a pet shop and decided to play with some of the dogs. Personally, I think the concept of pet shops is ridiculously sad. When the time comes to get a puppies of our own, Jeff and I will definitely go to a shelter. However, I also feel really bad for the pet shop dogs stuck in cages all day. We like to take them out and play with them every once in a while.

We spent about a half hour playing with a pug. She was adorable and I really wanted to take her home. Then, we asked to take out a beagle.

I have a soft spot for beagles because I had one and she died a little over two years ago. Her name was Princess and she was the best and fattest beagle ever. The one we played with today was not as fat as Princess, and almost as great.

After we said our sad goodbyes to the pups, we headed home for lunch.

I made an incredibly delicious wrap stuffed with:

  • Peaches
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Romaine
  • Goat Cheese
  • A tsp of Annie’s Naturals Lite Raspberry Vinaigrette

It was a really awesome combination of flavors. I devoured it all in a whole wheat tortilla with a side of FSTG Cheddar Chips.

I hung around the apartment for a while, reading blogs, and listening to Jeff yell at the final game of the World Cup. I read so many blog posts about running, that I suddenly felt the urge to run. So, I did.

This banana was both my pre-run and post-run fuel.

I worked a half and half type of deal, if ya know what I’m sayin’. If you don’t- don’t worry about it. I’m not really sure what that meant either.

After dinner, I inhaled two organic cookies so fast that there wasn’t time to take a picture. Now, I’m sipping on Honey-Vanilla Chamomile Tea and catching up on blogs and twitter.

And just for good measure, here’s my dinner from last night:

I told you a sunshine burger was in my future. I topped it with a slice of cheddar (it’s there-you just can’t see it), romaine, and tomato. I had steamed corn and summer squash on the side, along with strawberries.

My first night at my new job went really well. I packed a snack but didn’t end up eating it. Dinner held me over until I got home at nearly 1 a.m. and crashed in bed.

And that’s all I have for right now, blogfaces.

What is your opinion of pet shops? If you have a pet, where did you get it?

Have a great Monday! <3

  • I remember back when I was a kid, going into the pet store in our mall to look at kittens, and thinking how sad they were. When we finally got a cat when I was about 10 or so, I remember it was a toss up as to where we were going to get the cat – the shelter? or the pet store? We ended up getting him from the shelter (they offered a deal where if you got your pet spayed or neutered, they would refund you some money or something), and I’m SO glad we did!

  • Pet shops make me sad. I like to play with the cuties but then I would want to take them all home. I got our lovelies at the Humane society and they are the highlight of my life. And they were on the not to be adopted list because they were so old. But they suit me and Hunni just fine.

And I think the bunny thing is scientific because they soak up the cheesy goodness with all the holes. More surface area…more yumminess.

  • pet shops totally make me sad…i feel like so many ppl randomly buy cats and dogs at pet shops and then they just end up in shelters. the day i get a pup, it’ll most likely be from a shelter…or a breeder if i am crazy obsessed with say, bulldogs in the future.

fyi, that beagle is ADORABLE. i have a soft spot for beagles.

  • I totally agree with you about the mac and cheese – it always tastes better when it is in a cool shape :-) It looks SO good btw!!!!

We got Skip at a pet shop. We went to many shelters first, but the majority of the dogs there were Pit Bulls and that was not the kind of dog we wanted. My parents wanted a small dog and the pet store we went to had many; the shelters had none. I do think it’s silly to pay for a dog when you can adopt one, but I don’t regret getting Skip from a pet shop one bit!
We’ve only ever gotten our cats at shelters, though.

  • I got Dixie (dog) from a lady who couldn’t care for her anymore. It was just as good as getting her off the streets because she was so sick. Jack (cat) I adopted from a shelter. There are so many animals that need good homes in shelters, so I will always go there first.

I’ve missed visiting your blog! Everything looks yummy as always :)

  • Everyone thinks I’m crazy when I tell them that I like the macaroni and cheese with shapes better because it tastes differently! Ha ha, I’m glad I know someone else that is on the same page. Sometimes I wish I had a child with me when I went grocery shopping so it didn’t look like I was a five year old buying food :) Also, that wrap with fruit looks amazing and you have inspired me to maybe try and make one for lunch today!

  • Your eats look so good, especially the mac and cheese. I also love adding peas to everything :)

  • The bunnies are crazy cute. I wish they made the whole wheat in the cute shape!

We always get our pets at the pound! I like my kitty mutts :D

  • Your food looks so fresh and yum :-) Good job on your run! Keep up the good work!

  • That fruit wrap is such a great idea! I’m going to have to try it one day soon.

  • I love the bunnies! And…clearly the company is named after me soooo. ;)
That is so sweet you take pup pups out of the cages for a bit. I try to do that when I can. I also grew up with a beagle so I have a soft spot for them!

  • i don’t go to pet shops; they make me very sad. i got julius from a breeder in nj, a huge farm!

  • A fruit wrap is a genius idea! It could also be a great dessert….YUM!!

  • [...] This is a hard one. I’m always throwing together random ingredients.  I’d have to say the fruit and goat cheese wrap that I made in July. It contained peaches, strawberries, blueberries, romaine, goat cheese, and a tsp. of Annie’s Raspberry Vinaigrette. http://www.roseyrebecca.com/2010/07/11/if-you-know-what-im-sayin/ [...]

  • [...] reading Eating Animals at B&N for a while, we went to the mall pet store to play with some of the puppies. I’ve [...]
