———————————————————————————————————————–

After breakfast yesterday, most of the OB Today Show bloggers parted ways, but Cynthia, Jessica and I decided to spend some time walking around the city.

For those  of you who may not know, I grew up 30 miles outside the city in Rockland County. I moved to Albany last year and I’ve missed the convenience of being able to hop on a train and be in Grand Central in no time flat.  So, even though I was running on one hour of sleep yesterday, I decided that spending the day in the city would be totally worth it.

First, I bought everything in took a picture of Cynthia in Anthropologie.

Then, we walked a million blocks to find a Barnes & Noble.

People kept giving us the wrong directions (including a COP at Grand Central!), and it was HOT yesterday. At one point during our quest to find B&N, we had to go into Dress Barn for 10 minutes to cool off. I pretended to try on a shirt, so I could stand in the fitting room without my shirt and pants on. Too much info?

Anyway, we ate lunch here:

JUST KIDDING!

We actually ate lunch here:

Kind of kidding? :-)

I LOVE Crumbs.

Jessica and I decided to split a cupcake.

Cappuccino was the obvious choice since everything I did yesterday involved gallons of coffee.

And then, tragedy struck. My camera fell out of its bag and crashed onto the floor.

DUN. DUN. DUN.

It still takes pictures, but the zoom isn’t working. We considered trying to find a camera store so I could get it fixed right then and there, but I decided not to let it ruin my day. I’m going to Best Buy today to see if I have a warranty.

After spending some more time walking around in the heat, we decided to have an actual lunch in a cute, but very loud cafe in Grand Central.

The waitress brought out shark rolls to start.

I was still full from the cupcake, so I kept it light with Butternut Squash Soup:

I know, I know- soup in that heat!?!? I couldn’t help myself. It was so good!

When Cynthia and I got on the train, she threw a Barnes & Noble bag on my lap and told me not to kill her.

I realize it was sort of hypocritical for me to be at the Today Show to support the author of a book that I haven’t actually purchased yet, but it’s the thought that counts, right?

Anyway, Cynthia surprised me and bought me the book as a thank you present for getting her into the city yesterday! She knew I wouldn’t accept if she offered to buy it for me in B&N, so she bought it while I was in the bathroom  having a  mini panic attack about my camera. She hid it from me until we got on the train. She’s so sweet! Thank you so much, Cynthia!

Side note: I fully intended to buy the book. I’m just a broke college student, and was waiting for a decent paycheck from my job first.

Cynthia posted an Operation Beautiful note on the train:

When I got back to my parents’ house, I somehow managed to stay awake until 9. In case you missed my post on Wednesday and don’t know that I was crazy, and pulled an almost-all-nighter before the Today Show, here’s how I survived:

  • Left work at midnight on Wednesday night with an iced soy latte and a large hot coffee (for the morning).
  • Drove from Albany to my parent’s house. Only took a little more than two hours since there was no one on the road (it usually takes 2.5).
  • Was totally wired from the caffeine, so I didn’t go to sleep until 2:40. Set my alarm for 3:40.
  • Got up, showered, packed a bag, heated up coffee, and headed out the door to pick up Cynthia at the Palisades Center.
  • Boarded train to Grand Central in White Plains, and arrived in the city during a thunder storm. (Thought: Oh great, it’s going to pour the whole time-I’m still going- I don’t care!).
  • Iced Coffee from Dean & Deluca.
  • Iced Latte from random coffee shop after spending thousands of dollars in Antropologie.
  • Half of a Cappuccino Cupcake (prob. didn’t help but I can pretend).
  • Iced Coffee  from Starbucks when we got off the train in White Plains.

Whew! I was made of coffee yesterday.

Before I end this book of a post, I’d like to share the awesome dinner that my mom made for me last night:

Veggie Pasta!

Don’t ask how I drank wine without passing out.  I have no idea.

The. End.

Tell me about your favorite city!

Have a great day! <3
