A Very Special Giveaway (CLOSED)

NOTE: This giveaway is now closed. The winner will be announced soon! Please check back for future giveaways and fun!! (9/18/10)

This giveaway is special because the winner will receive a handmade piece of jewelry made my one of my closest and oldest friends.

Dara and I have known each other since preschool.

dara2

Although, we don’t see each other as often anymore, we still stay in touch by phone and e-mail. Dara has always been a very talented and crafty person. She went to school for graphic design and designed my blog header.

About a year ago, Dara started her own blog to showcase her talent. She has made everything from stuffed animals to clothing to jewelry. It wasn’t long after she started her blog that she created an Etsy Shop to sell her handmade creations. [Favorite her on Etsy if you have one!]

Out of all of Dara’s creations, I think I love her jewelry the most:

DaraTea

I love the delicate, vintage-like details…

DaraKey

And I like that the bead color can be customized in all of her necklaces…

DaraTree

I think the teapot is my favorite!

Dara has generously agreed to give away one of the three handmade necklaces you see above to one lucky Rosey Rebecca reader.

  1. one of my closest “friends” is my sister brooke. Shes my best friend and always will be. Since i dont make connections or cliques with all the girls in my school, i decided to give up on trying to fit in and be myself. Brooke supports me and help me through all my hard days when im feeling down and feel i have no true friends. She always helps me come up with fun creations and recipes and we always talk about how we can make our lives, that much butter. We grow and transform together as we find a healthy balance between food and life. We really keep in mind that neither of us want to be disordered eaters anymore and we support eachother in every way we can. She is and always will be my best friend!

  2. Those are beautiful!

I’m actually really bad about keeping in touch with old friends. I live about 6 hours from the place I grew up, but 3 of my girlfriends and I are still very close, even though we rarely get to see each other. I love them because it doesn’t matter how long it’s been – when we see each other again, it’s like no time has passed at all. We’re gabbing and laughing non stop, like old times.

  3. I love Dara’s blog and her work! I like all 3 of them, but the tree was my favorite ever since the first time Dara posted them! So, here it goes, my story about friend.
I know that is really trivial to say that a dog is man’s best friend, but in my case it’s something more than that. I chose to write about my late dog, not because I don’t have people in my life who deserve to be called (best) friends, but because he and I have a sort of a memorable day coming up and I thought this would be a good way to give a tribute to the dog who saved my life.
His name was Troy and he would have been 14 had he lived today.

This picture was taken 12 years ago, but I still remember him being the best friend anybody can have. I wont share some of the specifics of that day, because it’s too personal, but if it wasn’t for him I might not have been here today.
We were out in the nearby forest next to my apartment and he was off leash. It’s was early in the morning and there were not many people around. He loved to run, to chase squirrels ( as all dogs) and I was never afraid to let him run far away from me, because he always came back. This day he ran after something ( I think it was a small rabbit or something) and I continued walking. He was gone a minute or so, when I heard him yelp and then it was quiet. I instantly knew something was wrong, because by this time he usually was back, so I started running towards the place I’ve heard the yelp. I couldn’t hear him anymore, I started screaming my head off calling him, but he didn’t answer. In a couple of seconds ( it was really, really fast!) I heard somebody running towards me, it was a man in dark clothes I’ve never seen before. My dog was nowhere to be seen and this guy was running ( obviously not friendly) towards me. I started shouting my dog’s name and the moment the man almost reached me, like a flash my dog came behind him and jumped on his back. My dog’s head was bleeding, the guy must have thrown a rock at him or something and Troy probably was unconscious since he didn’t hear me when I was calling his name, but the moment I needed him, he came to save me. The police came etc, but they didn’t save me. My dog did and I’ll be forever grateful to him!
He was the kind of friend I’ll never forget!
    Rest in peace, Troy!

  4. I don’t have many close friends, but one of my closest is Catherine. I met her my freshman year at school and the following three years we roomed together. It was so nice living with someone I could hang out with, act silly with, and have fun with on a daily basis. Once during midterms, we made a ridiculous video of us dancing and we ended up getting two copycat videos mimicking us! It was definitely a great way to relive the stress of writing papers, doing projects, and studying. She is not only a friend, but a sister to me. Even though we are no longer roommates, we still see each other every so often and it’s as if no time has passed at all.

  5. Dara’s jewelry is so beautiful! If I could purchase anything off of her Etsy page it would have to be the tree pendant necklace. I cannot express how much I love it.

  6. Awww wonderful giveaway!

I have had the same best friend since I was 5! We have been through A LOT together. We’ve definitely grown apart over the last few years but I still consider her my BEST FRIEND. I get to see her tonight for the first time in about… a year! I’m so excited!

  7. It is my best friend’s birthday on Thursday, we have been through it all and actually bonded over both of us experiencing the same tramatic experience seperately. We found a listening ear and an understanding nod of the head is all you need some times. From there our friendship has grown, we have run 5K and 10Ks together, gone on vacation, shared too many bottles of wine – but all in all, she is always there for me. I never hesitate to call her no matter what is going on in my life and that is a true friend. I love her like a sister, she feels like one to me! Happy birthday to my bestie!

  8. My best friend is someone that I met my first year of high school. As luck would have it, my father and her mother began dating and have been living together for eight years! Now she’s not only my best friend, but my almost-stepsister 🙂

  9. wow, i would love to win that beautiful key necklace. That would be a great gift for my mom, who i love dearly!

My bestest friend lives in maine (and i live in ca) for college and I miss her!

  10. My best friend lives 7 hours from me, but every time we’re together, I still feel like we’re 11 years old, running around the house and laughing together. She just recently has been undergoing treatment for breast cancer (only 23 years old!) And it’s been a whirlwind of shock, grief, and hope. She’s been much stronger than anyone else I know through it all, and already wants to plan my trip to visit her when she moves to California next winter! She’s my inspiration, and I love her so much!

  11. My best friend and I have been best friends since birth our moms were best buds and we lived across from each other – and one day we got into a fight (I was 6 she was 9) and the ice cream man came and I didn’t want to be fighting anymore so I said to her I will buy you an ice cream if you’ll be my best friend… Well it worked and to this day we both use it as “get out of jail free card” when we are done with a spat

  12. Oh, the tree is my favorite, just gorgeous.

I have a girlfriend I’ve known for over 25 years. We’ve been besties for the last 23. We don’t see each other all that often because we live so far away, but we are always there for each other.

Through our lives we always seem to go through the same thing at the same time, hardships, break-ups, new jobs, meeting the loves of our lives. It’s almost spooky!

I’m going to her wedding in three weeks and I’ve never seen her happier! Love you Kel.

  13. My best friend and I met 8 years ago. At the time, she went to a very strict church, where she was treated horribly. I was 343 pounds. Together, we pulled ourselves out of those situations, left the men in our lives that we didn’t love, and moved into together. We built our lives over again, and were it not for her, I’d never have done it. She is truly special.

  14. My friend Shauna is very close to me. We have been best friends since we were in grade 3. 6 years ago she was the maid of honour at my wedding. She currently lives a couple hours away from me, so I don’t get to see her as often as I would like. I miss her.

  15. I miss my best friend a lot too! I don’t see her hardly enough but when we do see each other its just like old times. I love your friends stuff! The little elephant is so cute. But I really like the ‘spot of tea’ necklace. So pretty!

  16. My best friend is Jordana. I’m a Marine brat and the wife of a former Marine, so my family has never stayed in one place. Any friends I made were soon forgotten or forgot me. I met Jordana in NC when my husband was stationed there over 7 years ago. Of course, both of us being military wives, we both moved, but never lost touch. She now lives in DC. We went to school together in NC cramming and over-scheduling classes so we could graduate before getting shipped off again! We supported each other and helped each other with assignments. We became social. I’m not a very outgoing person, so it was a miracle she even talked to me!

She comes up to RI to visit me at least once a year and never complains or cares that I can’t get to DC because of financial issues. My husband has been out of work for almost a year and travel is almost impossible! We talk on the phone pretty regularly and have so much in common.

I can honestly say that she is my best friend.

There’s nothing spectacular about how we met or how we’ve stayed friends, but there it is.

  17. The Key to Your Soul and Mother Earth necklaces are my favorites! I love the antique look of all of her pieces! I would choose one of either of these two, but it would be a tough decision!

  18. A lot of my close friends went away to college while I stayed home and went to school. Now that everyone is graduating and moving back home I actually get to see them again! Just this weekend I joined the Y with my good friend, Daryl. Since then we have gone to a couple classes and had a great time. I love having my friends back!! 🙂

  19. Those necklaces are adorable! I love the Mother Earth and Key to the Soul a lot!

And in regards to close friends, years ago I had a friend who lived over an hour away. When she found out I was re-diagnosed with cancer, she made a bunch of different korean dishes that were each special for good health (she’s korean). Then she drove down to my home to feed me. I’m still grateful for her friendship to this day 🙂

  20. My closest friend is my Mother. She has been there for me no matter what is never judgemental. Kind of like the Gilmore Girls!

  21. my closest friend is my friend felicia. we met in grade six and hated each other at first, but eventually we realized we have so much in common and became best friends. she moved 4 provinces away in grade 8, and every summer since then (i’m in my third year university now!) one of us goes and visits the other for two weeks or so. i’m usually bad at keeping in contact, but she and i have stayed the best of friends for years!

  22. My closest friend is Michelle. We met when I was 16 and she was 15. (I am 25 now). We met at our church youthgroup. You know how they say everyone has ONE friend who really sticks with you through thick and thin? She is mine. She has been there for me through a break-up with my first real boyfriend, she was there when my mom was sick with cancer, and again when my dad fell off a roof while on a construction job and went into a coma. She stood by my side on my wedding day, and she’s been there for me as my husband and I have battled infertility for the last three years. She recently moved to Washington D.C. to start her career, and I miss her dearly, but we keep in very close contact and she is always right there for me whether it’s through Facebook, phone conversations, or occasional visits. She’s pretty much the best friend ever….

  23. My favorite thing in Dara’s Etsy shop is Harold the fleece Elephant! I absolutely love elephants and have always considered them my “good luck” symbol. Plus, they are just so stinkin’ cute! It would make a great baby shower gift for my sister.

  24. Hmmm…I am blessed to have more than one best friend, but I think my VERY best friend is my husband. We’ve known each other for ten years this December, and been married for almost 9 1/2 years. He’s there for me every minute of the day, and he’s the only person I know that knows me better than I know myself.

  25. When I decided to move away after college, my best friend not only threw me an awesome going away party but made me a Target registry of stuff I’d need in my new place. She’s the best.
    Thanks for doing the giveaway!
    🙂

  26. My closest friend has been my best friend since the 3rd grade!!! We have been there for each other for so many firsts in our lives and even though she moved out of state when we were 15 we remained bf and visited each other!!!

When it came to choosing colleges, we both got accepted to the same one!!! So we got to experience that fun time together as well! Now we are both married and we still call each other every week 🙂

    I just love BEST FRIENDS!!!

  27. My best friend is Jessica. We met in kindergarten in California and now 32 years later, we live in the same Oregon city (and so do our parents) She and I are honest with each other, supportive, and have wicked senses of humor! She is an “aunt” to my daughter and we are in love with her two cat children. I treasure her as much as I did when we were playing chase on the playground years ago!
I love the tea pot necklace and I would actually give it to her if I won!
Thanks! foxsquirrelrabbit at gmail dot com

  28. My best friend is my husband. What can I say we’ve been friends since High School and we are now 30 years old, married and making a life together. What more is there? 🙂

my best friend is my husband. i know this is such a cliche but we’ve been together for almost 7 years and we’re still best friends. We’ve definitely have rough patches but he’s the number 1 person I want to spend my time with!

  30. I’ve known my dearest friend for about 15 years. She’s very special to me because she’s always been there for me. She’s the most generous person I know with her time.

  31. One of my best friends I met only 5 years ago. My husband and her husband were both working the same long hours at the same job. We got together with a group of co-workers a couple of times and realized we had a lot in common. We became good friends and spent a lot of time together after that. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding and helped me SO much with wedding things, I couldn’t ask for a better friend.

  32. I only have a couple of really good friends. The best of which now lives many states away from me. Every time we get together though its as though no time has passed between us. We’re always able to relate and get each other through the worst and best of times. We did some of the silliest things together as teens, making up some fabulous words that only made sense to us and we still use to this day. We’d sit for hours playing Mario Cart and talking about Disneyland. haha. I miss her, and wish she was closer but the miles between us don’t really exist unless we let them.
