Today is my five year anniversary with Jeff!!!
I realized that I mention Jeff a lot on the blog, but I never really talk about him. I never really talk about the fact that I’ve been with him since I was 18, or that we met on MySpace, or that we probably shouldn’t have met at all (I’ll explain).
In August 2005, I was just out of high school, and terrified to start my first year at Westchester Community College (WCC) in Valhalla, NY. I wanted to make friends, so on September 5, I logged onto WCC’s MySpace page, and posted a topic in the forums that said just that. I got tons of responses. Jeff’s was one of them.
We began talking via MySpace messages (I can’t even remember how MySpace works!), and that night he IMed me on AOL.
It was obvious that we had the same ridiculous sense of humor when he first messaged me. I had to sneeze, and instead of saying Hi, I said ACHOO. He laughed so hard.
We discovered that he had a night class directly below mine in the same building on the first day of classes (Sept. 7). We agreed to meet when our classes got out around 9 p.m.
Now, here’s the reason we should not have met at all. I got out of class WAY early, and when I tried to call Jeff to let him know, I realized that I had put the WRONG NUMBER in my phone.
I wasn’t sure what to do. I walked to my car, and contemplated going home. I lived 40 minutes away from WCC, and could have just sent Jeff an e-mail explaining when I got home.
But, for some reason, I decided to wait.
I walked around the WCC campus for close to two hours, and finally ended up in front of the building where Jeff’s class was supposed to be.
I am horrible at recognizing people in person after only seeing their pictures online. So, when students started to pour out of the front of the building at 9 p.m., I had no idea what to look for.
I can’t say that I really recognized Jeff from his picture. At some point, while standing there waiting, I saw a guy walk out, and just decided to yell at him.
“HEY,” I yelled. “Do I know you?”
“I think you do,” he said.
And, that is the story of how Jeff and I first met.
A week later, we decided to start dating, and the rest is history.
[We’ve lived together since January 2009, when we both transferred to the University at Albany. We will both graduate in December]
Jeff and I are going out to dinner somewhere tonight. Not sure where yet! I think we’re leaning toward a brewing co. & pub in Vermont!
Have a great day! <3
