Back-to-Blogging Party Post

And I’m back! Are you still here? Hope so!

Thank you to everyone who commented, tweeted, and e-mailed when I announced my unexpected break from blogging. I know many of you are wondering what happened, but I’m not ready to discuss that yet. The past two weeks have been very difficult for me and for those close to me, but I have faith that everything will be OK.

So, I’m calling this a party post because I have a lot of fun things to talk about! Such as the winners of my CalNaturale Svelte giveaway. I apologize for the late announcement, but late is better than never, right? What’s a party post without prizes!?

So, without further ado, here are the winners (chosen by the random integer generator):

The 12-pack variety case goes to Christi Traster who said: I’m pregnant with baby #3 and am always looking for ways to get extra protein – and for things that I can grab on the fly! I would love to try them all – but cappuccino sounds the yummiest to me!

And the two runners-up, who will each receive a four-pack of Svelte, are:

Brooke Griffin who said: Oh my goodness, I’m so glad to see these being discovered! I pick up some of the vanilla ones whenever I can afford to stop by Wholefoods and I’m absolutely in love with them! They are sooo delicious, fresh, and I love that such a high protein drink has so much fiber! That’s a major plus for me. Unfortunately, I’ve only been able to find the Vanilla ones. I’d love to try the chocolate or coffee ones too!

And, Lindsay, who said: These little guys look so tasty! I so want to try the French Vanilla flavor. I am on the go a lot with my job, so grabbing one and heading out the door would be ideal!

Congratulations, ladies! Please e-mail your contact information to rebecca [at] roseyrebecca [dot] com

So, seven things about myself, eh? I seem to remember writing a post with ten random facts about myself back in August, so I have to be careful not to repeat myself, because that would be boring. Here goes nothing:

Fact One: I am a pizza snob.

Pizza

I grew up 40 minutes outside NYC, with my father and two brothers, who are even bigger pizza snobs (my mother doesn’t care as much. She worries more about books). My family has traveled miles and miles for good pizza. I can tell you if a slice is going to be good just by looking at it. I am not the kind of snob who refuses to eat crappy pizza at a party. I just know the difference. (Note: Two weekends ago, I ate three slices of the pizza you see above- it was that good)

Fact Two: My brother, Adam, is 10 years older than me. He started teaching English at my high school when I was a freshman. My first locker was right next to his classroom, and he used to write me late passes all the time. (He’s all the way to right in the picture below)

Brothers

My other brother, David (all the way to the left), is six years older than me. He just turned 30 on the 10th.

Fact Three: I had my first sip of alcohol on my 21st birthday. I had no desire to drink before that. My first drink was a Malibu Bay Breeze. It was made by a bartender at a club called Cabaloosa’s in New Paltz, NY. It was 80’s night, and Cyndi Lauper was blaring through the speakers.

wine

21 was the year of mixed drinks, 22 was the year I started liking beer. I didn’t like wine until I was 23. Now, it’s my drink of choice. I’d choose red wine over a Malibu bay breeze any day.

Fact Four: Speaking of the age 23, I turn 24 in one month and three days. Bakeries should start preparing cupcakes now. I plan to eat 57 (plus one for good luck).

Cake

Fact Five: I’ve been with Jeff since I was 18. He was two months away from 21 when I met him, making him nearly three years older than me. We will have been together five and a half years on March 16. We’ve lived together for two.

anniverspic

On Valentine’s Day in 2006, he took me to see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. We ate at Carmine’s afterward—one my of my favorite restaurants in the city. I proceeded to fall down the stairs of the subway entrance in Times Square. It was the best Valentine’s Day ever. I’m not kidding.

Fact Six: I am very shy in person. Always have been, but I try not to be, which makes me a little socially awkward. In groups, I’m more of a listener than a talker, unless I am 100% comfortable with everyone there. I’m usually very quiet.

Blogger Meet-up Summer 2010

Fact Seven: My two favorite workouts? Weight training and spinning. Hands down. I know a lot of people would say running, but I’m just not one of them. I’m ok with that. 🙂

OK, now it’s time to nominate 10 great, recently-discovered bloggers for the award. Well, I haven’t really discovered any new blogs lately—I’m out of the loop, recommendations welcome— but, here are five of my very favorite bloggers:

Feel free to leave blog suggestions in the comment section! I need em!

Also, would love to hear seven random facts about you. Play along!

Have a great Friday! <3

  2. You’re making me hungry after my workout 😉

BTW, There are no decent pizza places out here in the SF Bay Area. Unless you know of one in San Francisco? Nothing like the NY pizzas I had when I traveled back there a few years ago. And, I also love a good Chicago deep dish is also a favorite 😉

    TGIF… Ron

  3. Welcome back!

How big is that pizza? When you said you ate 3 I didn’t think that sounded like much, I figured I could eat the whole thing without too much trouble, but then I noticed it’s on a raised plate, and remembered that you’re in the States, where they’re all so much bigger. So maybe the whole thing would be pretty ambitious!! Looks good though! 🙂

  4. I want to hear more about the pizza snobbery — specifically, if you’re picky about pizza, where do you get good pizza around here? I’m still looking for a good place — crust not too floppy and thin, but not too poofy, either, and with good toppings.

    1. KB,
I don’t eat pizza that much around here. That’s my solution.

But the slices are pretty good at Marissa’s (http://marisasplacepizza.com/). The tomato/garlic pizza at I Love NY in the 20 Mall in Guilderland is pretty good (if you get it with sauce). And if you like thick crust, Smith’s Tavern in Voorheesville is pretty good. (Review: http://www.roseyrebecca.com/2010/10/17/as-you-read-this-the-calm-before-the-storm/ )

Other than that, I really only have pizza when I’m visiting my parents. The pizza you see in this post is from a place called Agnello’s in Rockland County. It is owned by the same people who own Brookyln Pizza in Edgewater, NJ. (Review: http://www.roseyrebecca.com/2010/01/16/agnellos-coal-burning-brick-oven-pizzeria/ )

If you have any suggestions, let me know! I hear there’s an awesome place in Troy. Not sure of the name. My friend goes there all the time. I’ll ask her and let you know. 🙂

  5. Thanks for the blog award! I feel honored. 🙂 I’ve been out of the loop on my blog reading too, and only recently started posting after a long break. I’m glad you’re back and I hope all is well. We should get together again soon! I usually have Saturdays free. Call me!

  6. Hi, just ran across your site and I love it! I’m excited to read more and learn more about you. In the meantime, I’ll just be drooling over that picture of the pizza (it looks sooo good- fresh tomatoes on a pizza are my favorite!)

  7. Welcome back — we missed you!

Too funny about your brother the teacher…I am only 3 years older than my only brother, so I couldn’t inflict the type of damage I wanted to. 🙂

  8. Yay…I’m so glad to see that you’re back! I hope everything is okay. #1 I am a total pizza snob too…but, I’ve never had a pizza that looked as good as that one. I would have eaten 3 slices too! 😉 #2 Your brothers look like some really cool guys. I’m not sure what having a brother is like, but it looks like a lot of fun! #4 Happy-early birthday! I just turned 24 in November. Exciting! I hope you have something really fun planned! 😀
