These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

Here’s a lazy Sunday post for ya! Introducing, three things I’ve been obsessed with lately:

Obsession Number One: Ordering iced lattes at Starbucks, but not paying full price.

OK, I used to be a barista, and I know many of you already know this trick, but for the iced latte lovers who don’t, I’m going to let you in on a little secret: Shots of espresso cost less than lattes.

So, the next time you’re at Starbucks, or any other coffee shop, order an iced espresso, and then add your own milk.

My ridiculously complicated order—a grande iced decaf* quad espresso—usually sets me back $2.98. Whereas, a grande iced latte would usually cost around four bucks and change. Plus, I usually order a QUAD, read FOUR shots of espresso, in a grande cup. A grande is usually two shots. I ask for soy milk on the bar—which they don’t charge extra for if you’re just adding it into your drink yourself—and top my shots off with milk. Tada!

*People make fun of me all the time—and by people, I mean Jeff—for ordering decaf espresso. What’s the point?, he asks. The point is that I like the taste of espresso, but don’t necessary want to feel jittery because of it. I only drink caffeine in the morning.

Obsession Number Two: Bathing suit shopping.

I just ordered this adorable nautical bandeau bikini from Victoria’s Secret.

I also bought this gorgeous two-piece from JCPenny. The bottom isn’t exactly the same, but you get the idea. 🙂

Jeff and I are going away in a few weeks, and I was in desperate need of bathing suits that fit. My old ones are too big on me!

Obsession Number Three: Weight- training.

For the past two months, I’ve been strength training at the gym every other day. About a month ago, I ordered The New Rules of Lifting for Women.

I’ve really been working on building muscle, and not just toning. When I started, I was using 6, 8, and 10 pound dumbbells, and a barbell with 10 pounds on each side. Now, I’m using 12, 15, and 20 pound dumbbells, and a barbell with 20 pounds on each side.

So, what have I been doing?

  • Deadlifts
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Bicep Curls
  • Tricep Extensions
  • Shoulder Presses
  • Planks
  • Push ups
  • Bicycle Crunches

Doing all that and cardio has really made me feel great about my body. I can honestly say that I love my body more now than I ever have. I am really itching to get back to a Body Pump  class though! Weight-training is more fun with a group!
