Happy Friday, Friends! I hope the week treated you well.
First let me say how truly grateful I am to all of you who took the time to read my last post. It was not an easy one to write, but when the idea for it popped into my head on Tuesday, I knew I needed to get it down in words. I am especially flattered that Emily—a woman who I have never met in person but has supported me since I first started blogging—choose to share my post with her readers. Even though I’ve been blogging since 2009, I am consistently surprised that there are people out there who care enough to read my ramblings. So thank you again. It really means a lot to me.
Since my last post was so heavy, I’ve decided to lighten things up a bit with this one and share some of the things I’ve been loving lately. My toes are cold as I type this so I’m going to start with something warm and comforting:
Pumpkin Chai Lattes
OK, so don’t hate me, but I’ve never understood the pumpkin craze that comes without fail around this time of the year. Pumpkin oats, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pasta. No. Just not my thing. I’m also not that in love with chai lattes. I usually find them way too sweet, and, honestly, I’d rather just drink coffee.
Pumpkin Chai Lattes, however, are a whole different thing. I am obsessed.
Granted, I order them with skim milk and half the syrup, but, still, it’s like heaven in a cup: creamy and just sweet enough. I can’t get enough. It’s the perfect post-lunch treat and I look forward to drinking one every day.
Julie’s Organic Ice Cream Sandwiches
I know, I know, it’s cold, but these are SO delicious. Jeff and I go through boxes of these things so fast. I really need a separate freezer so I can buy them in bulk. The ingredient list is so simple and, as far as desserts go, they’re really not all that bad for you. I will continue to eat them throughout the winter while dressed in 50 layers and bundled under tons of blankets because I’m crazy and refuse to believe that ice cream is a summer-only treat.
Fuse Pilates in Dupont Circle
This studio is my drug. I have been going to the same class every week for the past seven months. I just love it so much. A class at Fuse is not your typical pilates class. They take the concept of pilates and blend it with several other disciplines. Each class is taught to music and is based on the body parts students request to work on that day. Every class is different and I absolutely adore the instructor. My abs always feel so great after I leave the studio. I definitely recommend it if you live in the Washington, DC metro area. You probably couldn’t tell from my Coconut Curried Sweet Potato & Kale Soup, but I’ve been on a little bit of a kale kick (alliteration not intended). Last night I made kale chips with olive oil, a little salt, and a whole lot of lemon pepper and they were divine. I swear my skin is going to turn green any minute now. [In case you’re wondering, I preheated the oven to 350 degrees F and roasted these babies for 20 minutes, stirring once halfway through.]

Yes, I just included ‘Making Excuses’ in a list of things I’m loving lately.
Here’s the truth: Biking is one of my favorite things ever, I have two (yes, two) gym memberships plus the one in my apartment complex, and I pin motivational quotes like it’s my job. But my bike has also been sitting on my balcony for the past month, I haven’t stepped into a gym since August, and I pin quotes like the one you see above and then eat some chocolate and call it a day.
I say: I’ll go to the gym on Monday! but then: I’m too tired, I’m too hungry, my ______ hurts, I don’t have any clean workout gear (which is ridiculous since I only go to pilates once a week), I’m lazy, I need to do this, this and this instead.
Enough. No more excuses. I’m determined to pick up my workout routine again sooner rather than later. Consider this my official promise to start taking better care of my body. I’ll let you know how it goes.
