Hello March

HI! Happy Wednesday!

march

March is one of my favorite months of the year, and it’s not only because my birthday is on the 21st.  March means SPRING IS ALMOST HERE. Don’t get me wrong, I love winter but I’m SO ready for go-outside-without- a-coat weather, aren’t you?

Rosey Rebecca

Speaking of nice weather,  it was absolutely beautiful in Asheville this past weekend and I got to do a few of my favorite things: eat, shop and meet a fellow blogger!

Saturday morning started with a quick trip to the Asheville City Market

ACM rack fro 3-14

This was my first time checking it out and I definitely plan to go back.

Asheville City Market

The market is year-round and moves indoors January through March.  It hosts vendors from a wide variety of local farms and businesses.  There’s also live music!

I really adore the Asheville community and its huge focus on supporting local businesses.

My original plan was to get to there around 10 and take my time walking around and talking to the vendors. Unfortunately, I am the biggest procrastinator in the history of procrastinators and didn’t get there until 20 minutes before they closed.  oops.  Since I had plans to be out for the whole day I decided not to take advantage of all the beautiful produce, eggs and dairy.  Instead  I just  grabbed a bag of coffee beans from Biltmore Coffee Traders, a bar of awesome-smelling soap, and a micro-fiber cleaning cloth from Shecology, a local business that specializes in chemical-free, environmentally friendly cleaning supplies.

I know, I’m a pro at buying the most random collection of things.

After I sprinted through the market like a crazy person, I headed over to Rosetta’s Kitchen and Buchi Bar to meet this pretty lady for lunch.

Stepfanie, The Flexible Kitchen

Last week Stepfanie from The Flexible Kitchen blog reached out to me on Twitter to say that she remembered me from when I blogged in Albany and that she lived in Asheville too. We immediately made plans to hang out.  She recommended Rosetta’s for lunch and I agreed right away because I’d been dying to go there since we moved to Asheville in September.

Rosetta’s is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in downtown Asheville with an attached Kombucha bar called The Buchi Bar.  You have the option to sit in the upstairs dining room, where you can order at the counter, but we opted to sit in the much quieter, full service Buchi Bar downstairs.

I was beside myself with excitement looking at the menu. I’ve been a vegetarian for six years and I still  get excited when I realize I can order  ANYTHING off a restaurant menu.  On top of that, I had never tried kombucha on tap before so I decided to go all out and order a flight of all the different flavors.

I can’t even tell you what all these flavors were, but I loved all of them. My favorite was this really awesome pineapple turmeric concoction.  I could drink it every day for the rest of my life.  Thankfully, I can actually drink Rosetta’s kombucha every day without actually going to the buchi bar because they sell it bottled at a lot of places around Asheville!

For lunch I ordered the Grilled Portabella Plate.

Portobella Mushroom Plate at Rosetta's Kitchen, Asheville, NCAn entire portabella mushroom cap marinated, grilled, served with sautéed kale and smashed potatoes with vegan gravy. Topped with grilled red onions.

Oh my, this was delicious! And those smashed potatoes and gravy… I’m eating those every day with my pineapple turmeric kombucha. You can’t stop me.

I really loved Rosetta’s Kitchen and hanging out with Stepfanie. We had so much to talk about and we already have plans to hang out again. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: I love blogger meet-ups.

After Stepfanie and I parted ways I headed over to High Five Coffee for this beautiful vanilla latte:

Easily one of the most delicious lattes I’ve had in Asheville so far.  I started to get hungry after spending a few hours at High Five and decided to grab dinner at Green Sage Café. I’d been meaning to try their Colossal Falafel Burger for a while and I’m so happy I finally did.

So good!  I spent the rest of the night grocery shopping and watching Fuller House on Netflix.  Have you watched it?  What do you think?

Sunday was pretty uneventful.  It was another beautiful day in Asheville and I took advantage of it by hanging out on the balcony with Aslan for most of the day.  Speaking of Aslan, she had her teeth cleaned at the vet on Monday and is  pretty hilariously hopped up on extended-release morphine right now.  Poor kitty.

Aslan

Full disclosure: this is not a pic from after her teeth cleaning- she’s too busy rolling around on the floor and bashing her head into things for that.  Yes, that’s a catnip cigar. She loves it.

On Friday I plan to talk about what my workouts have looked like lately and how they’ve changed post hip surgery.

What was your weekend like? Do you like kombucha? Fuller House? Fill me in!

Have a great Wednesday! <3

  1. Oh my goodness I can TOTALLY relate to the excitement of being able to order anything off a restaurant menu. When my husband and I were on our honeymoon, we stopped in a random restaurant in South Carolina (it looked like a cool place!) and it turned out to be a totally raw, vegan place! It was amazing and it was SO fun being able to order ANYTHING!

    1. Liz, I love when that happens! You went on your honeymoon in SC? Was it fun!? Where did you go? We’re thinking of doing the Pacific Northwest for ours.. or New Zealand…or Ireland…or Canada…or…TOO MANY PLACES TO CHOOSE FROM!

    1. Carly, Don’t worry. When I inevitably move to my Christmas Tree Farm in Vermont, we’ll be the best of friends.

p.s. Have you checked out the Healthy Living Blogs website to search for bloggers in your area? I bet there’s more than you may think! I’ve also met a lot of local friends through IG!

  2. That looks fun! And although I feel sorry for you cat and hope she’s pain free by now, it must be hilarious to watch a cat on morphine 😀
