Some Things I Really Loved This Week (#7)

Hey all! Happy Friday!

It’s time for the seventh edition of Some Things I Really Loved This Week, a weekly series where I share things that positively impacted me over the past several days with hopes that maybe they’ll have a positive impact on you, too! Feel free to share some things that YOU really loved this week in the comments!

Experiences That Made Me Happy

Hands down, the highlight of my week was meeting Bellamy Young on Sunday afternoon, especially because I was completely unaware that she was going to be at Buncombe County Democratic Headquarters until about three minutes before she walked through the door.

If you don’t know, Bellamy played Mellie Grant on the TV show Scandal, which I binge-watched all seven seasons of earlier this year.  She’s from Asheville and came home to knock on doors and talk to people about the Midterm Election. Frickin Awesome!

Speaking of the Midterm Election, I had a great time at the Election Night Watch Party at Highland Brewing on Tuesday and I’m so excited that so many of our local candidates won their races. Jeff snapped this picture of our next sheriff Quentin Miller as he gave his victory speech to a packed crowd of nearly 700 people. What a night!

While I was at Summit Coffee the other day I noticed a collection of local art on display that made me stop and take a second look.

TALX is a project by Grace Engel that highlights the completely outrageous things that people say to women on a regular basis. Some Things I Really Loved This Week #7- www.roseyrebecca.com

I love it because it calls attention to how rude it is to give unsolicited advice to a stranger or a close friend or family member even when you think you’re being helpful. It’s also never appropriate to comment on a woman’s appearance or the way she carries herself unless she specifically asks for your opinion.

The message in this drawing by Stacie Swift has taken me a long time to believe. Still working on it because I’m a people-pleaser but this is a great reminder.

  1. That’s so cool that you got to meet Bellamy! I haven’t watched Scandal yet but I’ve heard awesome things about the show, and the fact that she was actually knocking on people’s doors and talking to people about the elections is amazing!

Talx is definitely a project I would support–I went through the comments and I’ve heard at least 6 of them directed at me. 😐

    1. Meeting Bellamy was surreal! I’d never met a real live celebrity before so it was truly the most exciting thing to happen to me in months.

And, yes, Talx is a really cool and relatable project. Glad you thought so, too!
