Hello! Happy Friday!
Happy Last Day of November! How is tomorrow December!? How is it already the end of the year!? THIS IS CRAZY!
It’s time for the ninth edition of Some Things I Really Loved This Week, a series where I share some things from my week that inspired me or made me laugh with the hope that they will inspire you and make you laugh, too! Feel free to share some things that YOU really loved this week in the comments!
Experiences That Made Me Happy
Our Sixth Instameet Thursday evening at Odd’s Cafe! I am continuously amazed by the little community we’ve created by hosting these meet-ups every couple of months. Holly and I have made so many wonderful friends and I really enjoy talking to people face-to-face instead of through my phone screen. There were so many new faces at the meet-up last night and we can’t wait for the next one!
I indulged in a ton of self-care this week and it has been great. I had an amazing Thanksgiving week but it left me feeling a little drained. That’s why I gave myself a break at the beginning of the week and totally vegged out on the couch in my PJs with a couple episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (I can’t wait for the second season to come back next week). I allowed myself to skip the gym on Monday and Tuesday and took it realllllly easy. As I get older I’m listening to my body and what it needs a lot more. I’m telling myself that it’s ok to take rest when I need it and to not feel guilty or unproductive for doing so. It’s a really freeing revelation and I plan to talk about the importance of self-care for mental and physical health a lot more.
NOTE: remember when I mentioned Alec With Pen’s Therapy Makes You Hotter hat in Some Things I Really Loved This Week (#6)?? Well, my awesome friend Amanda surprised me with one and I’ve been wearing it since she gave it to me on Wednesday (see pic above for proof). I even wore it to the Instameet last night. I love it and you should get one too!
Inspiring Things I Saw or Read
I really appreciate this illustration by Tatanja Ross because I find it so easy to beat myself up for what I haven’t accomplished yet and this is a great reminder to be proud of any progress you’ve made, no matter how big or small. Progress is progress. Even if it means just pulling yourself out of bed in the morning. In therapy, whenever I start to rattle off all the things I haven’t done because I’m too anxious or afraid, my therapist helps me see all the things that I have accomplished, even if I don’t see the value in my actions at first.
Terri Coduri Viani posted this Richard Rhodes quote and it’s so relatable. I saw it just when I needed it the most. Fear stops me a lot when it comes to writing and blogging. I love it- I really do, but sometimes I start to dread doing it because I get a little too far into my own head. I wonder, who is even reading my blog and is it important or interesting? Often times these types of thoughts stop me from wanting to blog and I think it’s why I’ve stopped and started so many times over the years. This post has inspired me to keep going. At least for right now.
Things That Made Me Laugh
Definitely me. Comic by Sarah Andersen.
Me: yeah I have a girlfriend, but she lives in a different country
Friend: what country
Me: um… Iceland
Friend: what’s her name
Me: um… Coldy
