As I walk into my surgery next Friday, I will think about think about this bake sale, smile, and be brave.
I feel it’s necessary to tell you that I almost ate my computer while writing this post.
Before we get down to business, I’d like to welcome any new readers, and explain why I’m raising money for this cause.
Next Friday, I will be getting a lump in my right breast surgically removed and biopsied. I first felt the lump in 2007, and have had three ultrasounds and one mammogram since then.
I’m only 23.
After my third ultrasound in August, I wrote on my blog that the doctors classified the lump as a fibroadenoma—a benign tumor. They told me that the lump had all of the characteristics of one, and that I didn’t need a biopsy. They said I was too young to worry about it, and I was ok with that.
Then, a blog reader named Erica changed my mind. She told me that the same thing happened to her, and it turned out to be breast cancer.
So, at my last appointment with the breast surgeon, I looked my doctor straight in the eye, and said “I want a biopsy.”
The doctor suggested that I get the lump surgically removed so I don’t have to worry about it anymore. I agreed.
But, even after the lump is gone, I’m still going to worry about it.
I’m still going to think about the fear I felt when I first found the lump.
I’m still going to worry about the women who have experienced, and will experience the same thing, because it can happen to anyone, after all.

I made Brandi’s vegan cookie bars in July, and they are AWESOME! She has given me permission to auction a batch off! Highest bidder will receive one batch of the cookie bars made by me (Rosey Rebecca). Brandi would have liked to make them herself but she’s swamped with work right now. Consider it a joint effort! Here’s a photo of the ones I made in July!
