Blends, Mastodons, and Thoughts on Moving

Earlier this week, I asked Jen if she wanted to meet up for coffee before my move this weekend. Well, what began as plans for a coffee date transformed into a full-blown blogger dinner with a few of my favorite ladies:

We met at Peaches for dinner, a cute cafe that serves sandwiches and delicious breakfast all day long. I had originally planned to order breakfast, but when I got to the restaurant, I decided on the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich instead.

It was so delicious! All of the flavors worked really well together. I ordered sweet potato fries on the side, and I’m glad I did. They were crispy and sweet, just the way I like em. I ate about half, and took the rest home to Jeff. He loved them, too.

It was great meeting up with my local blends (blog friends) one last time. I’m really going to miss hanging out with them!

I was still craving a big ol’ breakfast when I woke up this morning. So after attending a ridiculously sweaty spin class, Jeff and I headed to my favorite local diner to fulfill my craving. I ordered an iced coffee with milk as soon as we sat down:

I must have stared at the menu for five minutes before finally deciding on a Tomato, Onion, and Feta Omelet:

With dry wheat toast on the side:

The home fries were wayyy too buttery, so I pushed most of them to the side (yes, there is such a thing as too much butter). The omelet was fantastic, but very filling, so I ended up taking half of it home for breakfast tomorrow.

After breakfast, we decided to check out the New York State Museum in downtown Albany. We figured we’d finally go four days before we move away from Albany. I mean, we’ve only lived in the area for two years. It would have been totally illogical to take advantage of this free tourist attraction before now, right? (Can you sense my sarcasm?)

Anyway, we founds lots of neat stuff there. Like, this old NYC Subway car:

And the skeleton of a Mastodon found in Albany County, NY:

Pretty cool, if you ask me.

We spent close to three hours in the museum. If you’re ever in the area, I definitely suggest checking it out!

When we got home, I decided it was finally time to start packing. I had been putting it off until after my birthday on Monday.Sunday is quickly approaching, however, and we have a whole apartment to pack before we can move.

Living room

Packing all of our stuff is overwhelming, so I’m taking it a little bit at a time. I started with the linen closet.

Here it is before:

And after:

Oy! As moving day gets closer, the fact that I’m leaving this apartment behind is becoming more and more real. I’ve known about the move for a while, but it’s finally really sinking in that by this time next week, I will be living somewhere completely different. I love this apartment, and have many wonderful memories here. It was my first apartment, and I know I’m going to miss living here.

As I close this chapter in my life, I know the months ahead will bring many changes. I also know that everything will work out for the best in the end.

How do you deal with life changes?

I’m not good with change, so advice would be helpful!

Do you like exploring your own city, or are there places you live near but have never been?

Jeff and I have agreed that we are going to explore the heck out of the next place we live. None of this waiting till we’re about to move business.

Have a great Thursday! <3

Clean ALL The Things

Don’t forget to enter my CalNaturale Svelte Protein Drink Giveaway (say that five times fast). You have until midnight EST on Thursday, February 3rd to enter.

Yesterday began with a to-do list:

To-Do

Note: I know that Big Bang Theory and The Mentalist were repeats last night, but I hadn’t seen those particular episodes, so I was still excited!

Another note: if you don’t know what Clean All The Things means, please stop reading this post, and read this one instead. I know I’m directing traffic away from my blog by doing this, but it’s necessary. I promise

::crickets::

::more crickets::

Sorry, I got caught up reading that post I just sent you to.

ANYWAY. To-do lists! I love em. Don’t you? They motivate me and make me feel responsible. When I write something that needs to be done on a list, I really feel like I have no excuse not to do it.  I know sometimes not everything can get done, and sometimes I stray from the list, but having one to begin with really keeps me on track for the whole day.

Yesterday, for example, I had two loads of laundry washed and dried by 10:00. I have the most energy to get things done in the morning and early afternoon. After that, my motivation starts to wane, especially when it gets dark at 4 p.m. So I really try to get as much as possible done during the first half of the day.

After crossing laundry off my list, I added organize all of the piles of paper around the apartment:

mountains of paper

I have a bad habit of leaving piles of paper EVERYWHERE. It drives Jeff crazy, and eventually starts to get to me, too. I’ve found that the best way to resolve this is to gather ALL of my paper piles and put them in one place. Then, I sit on the floor and go through everything with a recycling bag right next to me. It took a while, but eventually I got it all sorted out.

Before I started cleaning, I made a delicious breakfast:

Omelet

This was a two egg omelet filled with sautéed onions, tomatoes, and feta cheese.

Omelet

With my omelet, I had a cup of coffee with vanilla almond milk, and an english muffin topped with a bit of real butter. Twas an energizing breakfast!

After I ate breakfast and sorted out my piles of paper, I got vacuuming and cleaning the bathroom out of the way. Check out how dusty my scale was:

Scale

That right there is a great indication of how often I weigh myself at home.

Since I am ridiculously allergic to dust, I have to wear a mask while cleaning. Check me out:

Dust mask

Don’t be jealous.

My bathroom really needed a good cleaning. My medicine cabinet, especially. Half of the products in there had expired in 2009. Don’t ask me why we still had them.

I broke for lunch at around 1:00:

Lunch

I had a quarter of the eggplant sub from Wednesday night, along with a side salad made up of spring mix, baby carrots, grape tomatoes, and cucumbers.

While eating lunch, I reassessed my list, and decided that I was going to take a rest day from working out. I was going to take one Wednesday, but really felt like doing cardio, and went to the gym instead. My body was sore from a week’s worth of working out, and I knew I needed it. I definitely worked up a sweat cleaning, though.

After lunch, I decided to do something I’d never done in my apartment before: vacuum.

Don’t worry, I’m not saying that my apartment has never been vacuumed. I’m saying that I’ve never vacuumed my apartment. Jeff usually does it because he’s sort of a neat-freak, and likes it done a certain way. But yesterday, I was inspired.

It didn’t take long for my inspiration to go out the window, though. I definitely almost set my apartment on fire. Don’t ask me how I did it. Just know that I will never try to do Jeff’s job again.

From there, I headed to the mall. Again.

You see, with my ridiculously great NY & Company purchase on Wednesday, I received a 30% off coupon to use the following day. On my way out of the store on Wednesday, I noticed this:

Scarf

And knew I needed it.

Scarf

It was a steal for $12 with the coupon! I am in love. I absolutely adore the pattern and can’t wait to wear it.

Since this post is already a book, and all I had for dinner last night was a PB& Banana sandwich, I’m going to leave you staring at my beautiful scarf, and go make muffins. Specifically, Caroline’s Apple-Pecan muffins.

I’ll be back later or tomorrow with more ramblings. In case you’re wondering, here’s what my to-do list looked like last night:

  • Laundry
  • Mall
  • Vacuum
  • Take Down Christmas Lights
  • Clean Bathroom
  • Organize piles of paper
  • Bake? (moved to today’s list)
  • Watch BBT and The Mentalist
  • Blog
  • Clean ALL the things! (A work in progress)

And here’s today’s:

To-do!

Random Blog Poll: How do you feel about the length of my posts? Are they too long? Too wordy? Should I shorten them into two smaller posts? I have more than I could have added to this post, but I didn’t want it to go on forever. Let me know what you think. After all, this blog is for you, too! Suggestions are always welcome and appreciated!

Are you a to-do list type or person?

Have a great Friday! <3
