Friends, Family And A Farmers’ Market

Buffalo Brussels Sprouts: Fresh Brussels Sprouts, Battered, Fried Crisp and Tossed in Buffalo Sauce and Topped with Blue Cheese and Bacon Crumbles; Parmesan Truffle Fries: Hand Cut Fries, Dusted in Parmesan and Truffle Oil with Garlic Aioli

Still there? Or have you fainted? Because I practically did after eating all of this delicious food on Wednesday night.

No trip to New York is complete without dinner with our good friends, Dara and Ian.

Dara and I have been friends since preschool and we get along so well because she gives me birthday cards with messages in the them like this:

Even though you’re having a small cake,  here is a big cake, and I’m hiding in the bottom of the cake, wishing you both well. Weird? Yes. But that’s how we do it.

She’s referencing the fact that we’re having a CAKE BUFFET at our wedding instead of a traditional tiered cake.

After Dara spoiled me with birthday presents, we had a great evening catching up and chowing down.

That, my friends, is the Vegetarian Sandwich from Eddie’s Roadhouse in Warwick, NY.

Since we stuffed our faces with Parmesan Truffle Fries and Buffalo Brussels Sprouts for appetizers, I decided to eat ALL the veggies for my entrée.  My side salad came with an IPA Vinaigrette and it. was. amazing.

And, of course, there were drinks.

Ian ordered a tasting flight, complete with a Nutella Stout.

We had an awesome night!

On Thursday morning my mom and I headed to Nyack to meet up with my brother Adam and his family at the Farmers’ Market.

There were so many wonderful vendors and we all had a great time wandering around and sampling local foods!

The Rosemary Fennel was so delicious but I ended up with a jar of the Chocolate Rush Hour. 

I’m a sucker for chocolate, what can I say?

I saw these vegan, gluten-free apricot bars and knew I needed to grab one for our friend, Jess, who’s visiting later today.

I also got Lemon-Lavender Cookies and Ginger Snaps, because, duh.

I almost left with 300 bottles of Om Kombucha, but practiced some self-restraint.  It was soooo good.

After my family dragged me out of the market, we headed to Art Café for lunch.

Baby Arugula, Chopped Tomato, Carrots, Cucumber, Red Onion & Parsley. Lemon Olive Oil Dressing over Hot Basmati Rice Made with Israeli Spices. Side of Tahini & Pita.

I need to start making more rice bowls at home because this was so good and so simple.

After lunch we parted ways and my mom and I spent the rest of the day shopping and getting our hair done. No post-salon pics yet. Guess you’ll just have to wait and see!!

I’m savoring these last few days with my family in New York. I can’t believe it’s Friday already. I feel like we just got here! I’ll be back on Monday with a recap of WEDDING PARTY DRESS SHOPPING and our trip back to Asheville!

You go to Trader Joe’s specifically to get cauliflower rice and cry when they say they’re out.  Then buy 300 things anyway, including this Black Bean Rotini.

Trader Joe's Black Bean RotiniFrom TJ’s website …pasta made with 100% black beans. No grains; just beans. The beans are dried and ground into a flour-like consistency, combined with water and formed into a Rotini or spiral shape…Unlike traditional pasta, this Organic Black Bean Rotini delivers 14 grams of protein and 15 grams of fiber in every serving.

Which turned out to be the perfect pasta to have with cauliflower quinoa meatballs!

You take 500 shots of your yoga mat covered with physical therapy props just so you have a picture to go with the recap of your PT appointment.

Physical Therapy

A couple  weeks ago I mentioned that I was going to physical therapy for my hip.  Even though I went for three months post-surgery, my hip has been bothering me in yoga and my instructor recommended I get it checked out again. So I made an appointment with a therapist who specializes in therapeutic yoga.  Well, I saw her yesterday and she thinks I’m doing everything right but that my muscles are just a bit tense, especially my psoas muscle and my glutes.  We did a few really effective stretches and then she used Active Release Technique (ART) to relieve the tension in the front and side of my hip.  My hip felt great afterward and I left with appointments for the next several weeks.  We are going to work more on strengthening and loosening up my muscles and I’m also going to do aquatics therapy once a week. Time for a new bathing suit, I guess! All in all, it was a pretty positive experience and I can’t wait to go again!

My friend Dara gave me this coloring book for Christmas and I find it really helpful when I’m stressed out or when I want to take pictures of oats with an interesting background!
